Evan Gingo I-79 Accident Pennsylvania: 18-year-old Pittsburgh man killed in pile up crash between the Evans City and Zelienople exits
An 18-year-old man from Pittsburgh has been identified as the victim of a massive multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 79 that shut down the highway in both directions Wednesday morning, according to state police.
Authorities said Evan Gingo was killed in the crash, which occurred shortly after 10 a.m. on I-79 between the Evans City and Zelienople exits. Initial reports indicate that at least 18 vehicles were involved, making it one of the most significant pileup crashes on the highway in recent months.
State police confirmed that Gingo died as a result of the collision. Information regarding additional injuries has not yet been released.
As emergency crews responded to the initial crash, several secondary accidents occurred in both the northbound and southbound lanes. Due to the hazardous conditions and the scale of the incident, police shut down I-79 in both directions from Route 228 to the Zelienople exits to protect motorists and first responders.

While the cause of the crash remains under investigation, icy road conditions were reported throughout the morning in the area. Officials said winter weather likely contributed to the dangerous driving conditions and urged motorists to use caution and avoid unnecessary travel.
Multiple agencies responded to the scene, including Pennsylvania State Police, local fire departments, emergency medical services, and road crews. Responders worked for hours to provide medical assistance, document the crash scene, and remove damaged vehicles from the roadway.
State police said the highway remained closed for several hours as cleanup and investigative efforts continued. Drivers were advised to seek alternate routes and monitor traffic updates before traveling through the area.
Further details are expected to be released as the investigation into the crash continues.
