David Zickafoose,York County Coroner’s Office Identifies Man Killed in Hanover House Fire

The York County Coroner’s Office has confirmed the identity of the man who died in a house fire in Hanover last month. He has been identified as 86-year-old David Zickafoose.

According to York County dispatch, the fire was reported just after 8:45 p.m. on January 30 at a duplex in the 300 block of Foxleigh Drive. Upon arrival, Hanover Area Fire and Rescue Chief Tony Clousher said crews were met with heavy smoke and fire showing from the back roof of the structure.

During their interior attack, firefighters discovered a body in a hallway. One other resident was able to escape the home unharmed. The victim, Mr. Zickafoose, was pronounced dead at UPMC Pinnacle Hanover Hospital, where the coroner’s office was called around 9:45 p.m.

The exact cause of Mr. Zickafoose’s death is pending the results of a toxicology report. The origin and cause of the devastating fire also remain under investigation by local authorities.

The incident underscores the tragic and swift danger of residential fires, with the community mourning the loss of a longtime resident.
