Bessemer Man Killed in Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-59 Near Fairfield
JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. — A Bessemer man is dead following a violent, multi-vehicle collision on Interstate 59 Saturday night.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) identified the victim as 49-year-old Manfred A. McCarroll. According to a preliminary investigation, the crash occurred on January 31 shortly after 8:00 p.m. near the 117-mile marker, within the Fairfield city limits.
ALEA reports that McCarroll was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe when the vehicle left the roadway. The Tahoe subsequently struck a cable barrier and a metal guardrail before overturning. Authorities confirmed that McCarroll was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the initial impact. He was ejected from his vehicle into the northbound lanes of the interstate.

Tragically, McCarroll was then struck by several passing vehicles in the roadway. He was pronounced dead at the scene from his injuries.
The crash remains under investigation by ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division. No further details about other potential injuries or the circumstances leading to the Tahoe leaving the roadway were immediately released.
